EXTRACTS FROM ADAM'S DIARY

How does the overall structure of the narrative (i.e. as a diary) contribute to the comedy of the piece?

I´ll add the link to the story below :D

Answers

Answer:

Explanation:

I have to tell you that the comedy is incidental.

I read this when I was 15 with a good case of the measles. It was not good for my eyes.

He wrote both these short stories (Eve's Diary Adam's Diary) on the eve of his wife's death. I don't think they were published during his lifetime but I could be wrong.

What you have to understand is that there was only 1 woman in Twain's life and he came to know the sadness and pain in the marriage vow ('...till death do us part.')

He was overcome with grief on her death. So this is not truly a parody. It is a lament filled with pain and longing. If you do not believe me, read the last paragraph of the extract.

He wrote as he did because Livy was everything to him. He is showing the reality of the woman he loved, but it is not humor in the true sense of the word. He missed her terribly, and he was writing about her absence in the  only way he could. She was (to him) an innocent creature who shared his love.

Eve's diary and this piece are masterpieces of how men feel about the women they love if they are fortunate enough to find such a person. The diary to me then is how Twain educated himself to the great virtue that was in Livy. If ever there was a reality exposed about that love, it is certainly in the last paragraph.

So the question really does not apply. And whoever wrote it does not understand how humor covers up tragedy. We can come to know things through humor, but in the end we are saddened by the clown who laughs but feels deeply burdened by his life.

Picture yourself as an early American leader. How would you have addressed the conflict between Americans’ desire to settle new lands and Native peoples’ historical claim to them?

Answers

Personally, I could never see myself as a leader, but if I were to be one during this time I would first understand both sides. The U.S government did the wrong thing when it came to this because they basically forced the Natives to leave their homelands. Like uhhhh, where’s the brain?? And to top it off, you have stinky men taking away most of the women and girls just to do the most awful things to them. I would talk to the Natives and say that we would have one side of the land while they had their half. I know it probably wouldn’t have been completely easy for I’m pretty sure the Natives wouldn’t see easily trust Americans. To be honest, no one was innocent during this time, but we know that this land was founded by Natives and I am not going to live to tell my children the whole “Christopher Columbus” thing. I hope my version of this idea helped lol

Read the excerpt from the Haida creation myth.

In the spirit world, the trickster god Raven grew bored. He decided to leave and fly over the earth, but he found it was in total darkness. The selfish Sky Chief had been hoarding daylight from the world. Raven wanted to be able to see the earth as he flew over it.

Read the excerpt from the Maori creation myth.

These sons loved their parents, but Rangi and Papa’s embrace was so tight that they had no space to move or to lead their lives. They lay in the darkness, constricted and unhappy.

Based on these excerpts, what is one similarity between the myths?

Both describe why it is difficult to live without excitement and fun.
Both explain why it is difficult to live without the ability to fly.
Both describe why it is difficult to live without the support of siblings.
Both explain why it is difficult to live in a world without light.

Answers

Answer:

Both describe why it is difficult to live without excitement and fun.

Explanation:

One similarity that these texts share is the fact that they both discuss the idea of living without excitement and fun. In the first example, we learn that the raven is bored with his life, and this is the reason why he decides to leave and fly over the earth. In the second example, we learn that the sons felt trapped and unhappy because they had no space to live their own lives.

which of the following is a symbol of adventure in "Adieu, Adieu! My Native Shore"?

the sea

the shore   <---MOST LIKELY THIS ONE

the speaker’s dog

the speaker’s home

im not sure which one is the answer, its either of the two in bold read the explanation please because i think i know the answer

explanation:

i think its one of these two because the passage says

"One kind of figurative language is symbolism. A symbol is just something that stands for something else. Two of the main symbols in this poem are the sea and the shore."

but the text also says

"In Byron's poem, since the speaker is leaving the shore and leaving home, the reader can rightly infer that the shore represents his home and his past life. Indeed, Alfred Lord Tennyson took up this very image as he has his character Ulysses grieve over "rust[ing] unburnish'd" on the shore while "the vessel puffs her sails" before him."

this leads me to believe that the answer is actually the shore but dont take my word for it
