My BBG Journey…

^^ My 12 week transformation (the rest of the photos were taken throughout the 12 weeks)

^^ The four of us trained together for months for the Pink Series Half Marathon. Between all of us we have 10 kids! I’m so grateful for these amazing mamas I’m lucky to call my friends!

^^ Last Saturday when I ran 10 miles with my dad and husband. The views were gorgeous!

I’ve had this post ready to share for a few weeks but for some reason I kept putting it off. I’ve been really nervous to share it for some reason. I put in so much hard work to get to where I am now and I still want to keep improving! I have never shared a full bikini image of myself. I either wear a one piece or high waisted suit and would only really ever share shots of me facing the front because when I turned to the side I was so embarrassed of the way my stomach looked. I think all of us – no matter our shape or build – have areas we are proud of as well as areas we are self-conscious, embarrassed of and want to improve.

I tried to start working out six weeks after I had Jackson but I just couldn’t do it. I was tired from the newborn stage, I was still nursing and I just couldn’t mentally get to a place where I felt motivated. I bought the BBG program right after I had Isla and started it but never finished because shortly after I found out I was pregnant with Jackson. It was a goal of mine to complete the program (eventually!!) but I just didn’t even know where to start after I had Jackson.

Several months later (in May) I hosted an activity for the women of my church at my home. After the activity, two young moms in my neighborhood stayed to help clean up and we got to chatting. We were talking about how amazing and hard it is to be a mama! We then started talking about our post-mom bods and two of us were asking our fit friend how in the world we were ever going to get back into shape and how she did it. I had no idea she had meal plans or a fitness Instagram account since I only ever saw her in the hallways of church when we were both chasing our wild toddlers around.

She told me she used BBG to get back into shape, showed me her before and afters and then talked to me about how passionate she was about promoting confidence in women and their ability to change their life, body and eating habits if they really put their minds to it!

She completely inspired me (and the other ladies who were there that night who participated in the conversation) so we decided we were going to start a “mom fitness group” for our girlfriends using the incredible program, BBG (Bikini Body Guide by Kayla Itsines). The conversation was on a Thursday night and by the time Sunday night rolled around I had completely forgotten about it and didn’t think we would ever really do the fitness group. Well, late Sunday night my friend Carli texted me and said, “Ok, see you bright and early tomorrow for the first day of BBG!” We decided to do it in my backyard so I had no choice but to wake up and go outside and workout. Surprisingly it was so much fun! I got to connect with old friends and meet new women from my church and neigborhood and have a fun time socializing with all of them before and after!

The next morning rolled around and I was excited to workout with them again. Now it’s five months later and we still do it together!!

One important thing I want to note – my fitness journey was one that I eased into. I did not go from 0 to 100 right off the bat. I started slow and worked out three days a week doing using the BBG App. At week 4 I slowly started adding in cardio classes. At week 5 or 6 I bought Fitness Carli’s meal plan and added that into the routine I had already established. That way I wasn’t trying to do a thousand new things at once. I knew I’d get too overwhelmed if I tried to bite off more than I could chew. At about week 9 on top of the BBG resistance training and eating I started training for a half marathon. I now workout six days a week and look forward to doing it every single morning!

Below I’ve answered all your questions you sent in. Let me know in the comments if you have any other questions!

How are you able to squeeze time in-between your two kids and life in general? I sometimes get mommy guilt. How do you do it?! I totally get mom guilt, too!!! Mom guilt is a real thing and I’m so glad to hear I’m not alone. I wake up at 6:00am and get BBG or my runs in before my babies wake up. I used to not be able to wake up before 9:00am but after a few weeks of making myself get out of bed at 6:00am it became easier and easier and my body has gotten use to it. I actually love waking up that early now!!

Have you changed your eating habits too? Or just working out? Yes I have! I eased into my fitness journey though. When I first started BBG I ate whatever I wanted, but at about week 5 I started seeing some results and it motivated me to do better! That’s when I started doing Fitness Carli’s meal plan. And to be honest, that’s when I saw my best results. I was tracking my calories and protein. As hard as this is to hear it’s true when they say it’s 80% eating. If you’re not eating right you won’t see the results you’re looking for. Your resistance training and eating go hand-in-hand.

Do you also follow the BBG nutrition plan? No. Since Kayla, the creator, is from Australia a lot of the foods were pretty foreign to me. I follow Fitness Carli’s meal plan and love how simple, delicious and realistic it is.

How long did you wait to work out after your c-sections? Does that area ever give you trouble no matter what type of fitness you do? I didn’t start working out until I stopped nursing Jackson. So probably 6 or 7 months postpartum.

How long do you work out every day? BBG is super quick but super hard (in a good way!!!!). It’s two different circuits that are 14 minutes each. So about 30-45 minutes total including the time I take to stretch after. When I run during the week I go about 2-4 miles so anywhere from 15 minutes to 40 minutes. On Saturdays I typically do a longer run when I’m training for a half marathon and those usually take 1-2 hours.

Do you think I could do it at home using the app? Yes!! I do it from home a lot of the time! You can do everything on your living room floor if you want to!

What’s your favorite workout attire and workout brand to wear? I love lululemon and Kiava!

Did you lose pounds or inches? Both!!! I still had some baby weight to shed. I probably lost more inches though!

Give us more details on your meal plan. It’s realistic, easy and really good. It’s the only meal plan I’ve been able to follow for a long period of time. It was a lifestyle change with balance.

How do you stay motivated on days you just didn’t want to work out or eat properly? Honestly, the more I workout the more I love it!!!! I look forward to it every morning! I’m a numbers person; give me a number and I have to get to it. I love the mental challenge each workout gives me every morning to complete each rep. It’s like a game to me!!

Pre-workout info? I eat a Treetop Apple Sauce pouch before BBG and I always eat a slice of peanut butter toast before a run. I stretch and make sure my muscles are warm before I start.

How have you managed to maintain such a great physic after having 2 kids? I naturally have a slender frame but my bad eating habits were starting to catch up with me and like I said, I’ve never felt confident in a bikini my entire life. There’s a difference between being skinny and soft and skinny and toned or strong. After I had Jackson I quickly realized I was going to have to work hard to get back to where I was. So I eased into it. I slowly started working out a few times a week, then eating really healthy (with cheat meals on the weekends, of course!!) and now I workout 6 days a week and I love it!!!! I feel better than I did when I was 17!

Do you do it at home or at a gym? Is it something you can stick with longterm? I’ve done both depending on the day! Yes you can totally stick to it longterm.

What are your best breakfast ideas or snack ideas? I always drink a protein shake with spinach added in so I get my greens and proteins all at once!!

What equipment does the program require? Hand weights and a mat. Sometimes there will be a bench or a medicine ball, but the app gives an option if you don’t have those.

What was your fitness level prior to starting BBG? I was a dancer my entire life so I’ve always considered myself somewhat athletic, but I hadn’t worked out in over a year when I started.

Tell us all your secrets and how it changed your life!!! My biggest secret is to ease into it. Take a before photo (trust me – this is key to keep you motivated). Find a girlfriend to be your workout partner, get into a routine you feel comfortable with and enjoy, then start on the eating. Don’t try to do it all at once. Think of it as a lifestyle change, but be patient and consistent. Balance in all things! Enjoy yourself on the weekends or you’ll go crazy!!!!!

Along with BBG workouts will you add what you do for LISS and when you started adding in HITT? I added HITT in at about week 5. I like to do High Fitness or sprints on the treadmill.

What are your go-to snacks when you get the munchies? Boom Chicka Pop, Dannon Light and Fit Greek Yogurt, a protein bar, an apple and a cheese stick.

How do you incorporate your meals with your kids and husband? Do you eat separately from them? No! Carli’s meal plan is amazing! My family eats the dinners too! I do make something different for my babies for breakfast and lunch.

How often do you do cardio? About 4 times a week but that’s because I’m training for a half marathon. If I wasn’t training for that I would be doing 2-3 times a week.

Did you do all of this while pumping or nursing? No, I waited until I was done nursing.

Did having a c-section present any issues when it came time to getting back into fitness? Yes, I had to modify all the ab workouts to be a low-intensity ab workout since my abs separated. It’s called Diastasis Recti.

Have you ever missed a day or taken a break? If so, what do you do to makeup for it? I haven’t missed a day of BBG since May (BBG is only three days a week). When I’m on vacation I still do it! I have missed run or cardio days though.

Are you using her app or just the original E-book? App! I love it and I love how easy it is to follow. I personally think it’s easier to follow than the PDF.

What do you eat before you exercise? Treetop Apple Sauce pouch.

How do you eat out while on a meal plan? I eat out on the weekends and use it as my cheat meal. There are restaurants that I can eat at that work with the meal plan. The Wild Rice Kale Salad from Cubby’s is my favorite!!

Do you count calories? Yes I do and I promise it’s not as bad as it sounds!! I use the app Lose It! to track everything. I love it!

What are your ultimate fitness goals? To be healthy, confident and happy.

Do you use a apple watch or any other tracker? Yes, I wear my Apple Watch for High Fitness (a cardio class and to run). But I don’t wear it while I do BBG.

Do you do the normal LISS that Kayla recommends or something else on the non-resistance days? No, I don’t. I do HITT most non-BBG days.

How early did you see results? How long did it take your body to start transforming? I saw subtle results each week. At about week 7 I really started to see and feel it, especially when I compared my progress photos.

Are you able to customize workouts to fir your specific problem areas? You certainly can, but I didn’t. I just followed her program as is.

Would you recommend getting any weights or items to use at home, or do them all at the gym? If you’re doing BBG at home I’d for sure get a mat and weights. If you’re doing it at a gym they’ll have all of the equipment there for you.

Can you do BBG without the meal plan? Totally! I’m going to be honest though, if you want to see maximum results do a meal plan with BBG (like I said, I used Fitness Carli’s plan).

What does a typical day look like for you? Workout, chat with my mama friends after I workout, wake up my babies, have breakfast, check emails, go to meetings, do some photoshoots, wrangle my babies, eat lunch, take naps, play, have dinner. It’s different and crazy everyday!

Any supplements you use? Protein powder and pre-workout. I love C4 when I run and I’ve also used WM Nutrition pre-workout.

How long does it take you to make meals from the meal plan? Not long at all! Not any longer than it would any other meal. I eat out way less since doing the meal plan which I’m very proud of!!!!

What do you do with your kids while you workout? I wake up and do it before they’re up.

Did you start HITT at the beginning? NO!! Not until about week 5. Ease into it!!!

How sore were you when you first started BBG and how did you manage the pain? So sore!!!! But a good sore! I just took some Advil. ;)

Do you ever complete HITT workouts along with a resistance workout? Or a regular cardio workout followed by resistance? If not, how do you typically complete workouts? I’ll run a few miles on the treadmill on BBG days but only because I’m training for a half marathon.

Do you have cheat meals or days? YES! I save those for vacations and weekends!!! I reward myself for being really good during the week.

Did you have any injuries? No. I always make sure to stretch before and after each workout which is so important when trying to prevent injuries. I also warm up before I start, just a speed walk on the treadmill for 5 minutes to get my muscles warm.

Do you have to have a trainer lead you through? My friend Carli leads it. You don’t need a trainer, you can totally do it on your own.

How do you do the circuits? How many times each one? Or do you do one skip to the next and repeat? I chose to do the 14 minute circuits. Kayla has a 7 minute option repeated twice so each circuit equals 14 minutes, but mentally I think the 14 minute is easier.

What activities did you choose for LISS and HITT? Running and High Fitness.

Did you feel like you were dying in the beginning? I found the first week so hard and wondered if I should continue? Yes, it was so hard but your body will adjust to it and you’ll get stronger, so it will get easier.

Is the meal plan calorie based or did you work with macros at all? Calorie. Macros are way too complicated for me to track!

Do you workout at the same time everyday ? Yes! Bright and early in the morning!

Did you do BBG or BBG Stronger? I did BBG since it was my first time.

Did you deal with Post Partum depression? Yes I did. Luckily I came out of it when I stopped nursing.

What is the hardest part about starting BBG? Waking up the first morning to do it. After that each morning got easier and continues to get easier. Get your friends to do it with you!!!

Did you notice both sliming down and getting stronger? Yes, both!! It was really fun to see the muscle appear and how much easier it was to lift my kids in and out of their car seats or high chairs.

With your group of friends, did you all buy the app or just the one girl instructed? All my girlfriends I did BBG with (at some point) bought the PDF or the App and just never finished. We all decided to do it together and we all finished! Some of us have started our second round!

How long did it take for your stomach to go down? It’s still going down! haha but it’s gone down SO much I honestly can’t even believe it! I’m a whole jean size smaller now. My stomach shrunk each week I did BBG. Each week you’ll see subtle changes but when you compare your progress photos you’ll be amazed at the progress you maybe didn’t even notice yourself when looking at yourself in the mirror.

What headphones do you use? Beats Wireless Headphones. I love these because they wrap around my ear so they don’t fall out while I’m running or doing resistance training (squats, jumping jacks, etc.). They also have bluetooth to my watch or phone so I don’t need to deal with annoying cords.

Where do you put your phone when you workout? I either hold it or put it in my bra (this bra has the perfect pocket for your phone!!), or I’ll put it in a pocket if my running leggings have them. Sometimes I’ll just take my Apple Watch so I don’t have to hold my phone when I run.

What’s your training program for a half marathon? I use the Hal Higdon training programs. Follow the mileage exactly so you don’t hurt yourself. I did the novice 1 program for my first half. This was my schedule with BBG added in:

Sunday: REST

Mon: BBG/light RUN

Tue: RUN

WED: BBG/light RUN

Thurs: REST or Cardio Class

Fri: BBG

Sat: RUN

Do you feel like BBG workouts have helped with your running strength and pace? YES!!! I did two half marathons years ago before I had both my babies and I barely made it through both races because my knees were hurting so bad. I came to the conclusion that running just wasn’t for my body. I started BBG in May and gave myself a month to build up some muscle. I started slowly adding in some short runs each week and I was able to build up a faster pace than I ever thought I could do ( and without any knee pain!!!!). Resistance training is key to running a faster pace and not getting hurt.

What kind of shoes do you run/train with? I run in my Saucony Freedoms. Do NOT run in Nikes! You need to have a good running shoe to prevent injury. I do like to train in Nikes though (these are my favorite and also these).

Why did you decide to repeat the BBG program? Honestly, I learned to love it and really fell in love with how it made me feel. It sparked something in me that I didn’t want to end, so I’m currently on week 9 of my second round!

    1. i’ve been waiting for this post! You look great. I’m a mom to two boys, the first came in march of 2015 and the second came shortly after in February of 2017. Needless to say there wasn’t much time in between to bounce back. I’m still holding onto some post baby weight but I haven’t been very inspired to get serious about working out. the gym is just not an option at this time so it’s really cool that you can do this program at home. You really have me wanting to give bbg a try, but with a different meal plan similar to what you did. Anyway super good post, thanks for the info and ideas!

  1. So happy you shared this! I just have a quick question about your knees because I remember you saying you were suffering knee pain with the marathons (longtime follower here lol), and i suffer from knee pain every now and again also. did you have an injury that caused your knee pain, or did the pain simply start randomly when running? thanks again!!! you look great, as usual :)

  2. Loved your post and totally get you! I’ve started BBG several times but never really finished the whole 12 weeks for different reasons and excuses I gave myself with work, baby, time etc. But started it again now and I’m excited to really finish it and become a healthier person. You look totally amazing and loved to read your journey <3

  3. So inspiring Rachel!! You look incredible! Even more important, It sounds like you are feeling incredible! There is such a difference in looking slim but actually being slim and fit/strong.

One question that did not get asked/answered is what size weights do you use? And have you gone up to using heavier weights as you’ve gone through the bbg program?

Thank you for sharing your jOUrney with all of us!

  5. Wow! You look incredible! Your determination Has really paid off. My fifth baby was a c section and it has been sooo mUch harder GAininG back my strengTh after. JuSt curious, i am still nursing my 1 year old, why Did you wait till you were done nursing? Thanks!!

  6. Love that you shared your true before and afters! This is super inspirational to me. While I always thought you were super tiny anyway, it helps to see that you had something you wanted to work hard toward and the difference it made! You look great mama!

  7. Congratulations! you look amazing!! Thank you for your honesty. You have definitely inspired me to get serious about my fitness goals!

  8. I just started bbg round 2 week 3 and this was just the motivation i needed! I started the program because you mentioned it and am forever grateful. what a life changer it has been! Keep up the incredible work, you look absolutely amazing!

  9. Hello! I also have Diastasis Recti, my son was born in january. did you do anything specific to heal it or did it just gradually go away over time as you began to exercise again? thanks!

  10. Thank you for this wealth of information! You look incredible, Rach. You should be so proud of all your hard work! Thanks for always being an inspiration:)

  11. Thank you so much for sharing your journey and your honest thoughts!! It SO nice to see that other people feel the same. I bought the program back in 2015 but also didn‘t finish it. This year i started again and now I‘m also second round. I‘m also doinG weight watchers to lOse Some pounds (only a few) but i haVe the feeling it is Not the right program for me. I also tried kaYlas Meal plan but it was not for me. I wanted to ask if carli‘s meal plan is enough? It is also only for two weeks just like kaylas but i found that a little boring after a while. HOw do you do it? Do you just get a feeling for the right things after a while or do you repeat the plan every other week? Sorry for all those questions but i just think i also need to change some eating habits for seeing more results.
    Thanks again!!
    Xx, Kirsten

  12. Congrats!! I love seeing these progress photos! I’m currently expecting twins and plan to do this once i get the all clear from my ob post-delivery, keep up the good work!

  13. I am doing BBG too and I have noticed that we are basically on the same schedule! I really love the program, but have only been doing the workouts because I know my boyfriend wouldn’t be down for the meal plan, haha! You have inspired me to check out Carli’s plan though! It looks like she incorporates more realistic meals!

  14. Love this post!!! I’ve attempted to start BBG about… 4 or 5 times, and something always got in the way, but this has totally motivated me to dig out the pdf and start again and actually finish this time! I had the same issue with kayla’s nutrition guide, so i’ll definitely look up the one you used!

  15. Thank you for sharing. I hope you know that You are an inspiration to other women & Mothers that they can do it too. I know it’s not easy & takes discipline and sacrifice. I also love seeing your new level of confidence… It shines through!

  16. You look awesome! it’s so brave of you to share your story, and I know so many will benefit from it. I have been doing the same old lifting routine for 2 years, and I’ll stick to it during my pregnancy, but once April rolls around and I have baby #2, you have me sold that BBG is the direction I’ll go!

  17. LOVE this post! I’m still trying to bounce back after baby #2 and have been following your fitness journey. Choosing to live a healthy lifestyle and be active takes work and dedication. Thank you for promoting health and not just weight loss!

  18. Agree that this is so inspiring. I had my first baby 4 months ago and am still nursing but ran a half marathon 2 years ago and would love to get back into running. I live in a big city so i walk a lot but I haven’t worked out since being pregnant and having the little one. Do you think it’s possible to do while still nursing or what made you wait? i’d love to start EXERCISING again. i had a c section and am back to my pre-baby weight but would still love to tone, lose some inches, and just feel better in general again by getting some sweat sessions in! thanks in advance!

  19. First off, you look incredible (even your before photos are inCredible!). Second, What is the financial commitMent to bbg? Is just the app for wOrkOuts Less than the Full bbg plan? I do a lot of personal tRaining and Spinning bUt there are days when i get home from work and i feel too dRained to leave the house for a woRkout so if i pushed myself to do a workout Without having to leave the House then i wOuldnt feel guilty for totally Skipping!

I always enjoy your posts 💕💕

  20. You. Look. Amazing!!! This encourages me to give bbg a tRy! One question- when you first started Were you able to get through the workouts? I’m nervous to try BBG because i’ve heard how hard it is and im soooo out of Shape….

  21. You look Soooo amazing!!! I to bouGht Carli’s meal plan. It has changed me. Those spinach smoothies 👌 Im also going to attempt my firSt high fitness class tonight with you sis. Im soo nervous. I havent done a fitness class in forEver 🙈

  22. This is so inspiratIonal and ive followed your whole fitness journey. Thank you for sharinG! You have eNcouraged me and i hope to try bbg and stick with it. Please continue To uPdate us! Xoxo

  23. So glad to finally read your pOst on your experience with bbg. My freshmen year of college i gained about ten pounds and when my sophomore year rolled aRound, i knEw i needed to make some changes. I downloaded bbg, completed the 12 weeks and lost the ten pounds i gained and then some! I reccomend it to anyone and Everyone and will definitely be directing people to this post.

  24. This is so inspiring! Thank you so much for sharing this journey. When i had my second baby i felt sad about my Bod and especially self conscious about my belly- now im pregnant with my 3rd and i can say i will be doing bbg after and training for a half marathon- i used to run in college and you have inspired ne so much! Thank you so much again! 💓

  25. this is suchhhh amazing progress rachel! I also swear by bbg. i’ve found it so incredibly hard to stick to a workout plan since i was a gymnast and then a college cheerleader for half of my life. i have the pdf but you have me convinced that i need to try it on the app. i have never completed the full 12 weeks. you’re giving me so much motivation. good work, lady!!!

  26. Hi Rachel! what kind of protein powder do you use? i’ve tried so many and cant find one i really love. Also, do you use any other wm nutrition products other than their pre-workout? Thanks! and congrats on all of your hard work! THis post is truly inspiring.

  27. Congrats to you on persevering! I have been waiting to see this post. Dealing with the post-mom-bod and needed some insight into the program. Thanks for sharing, you should be so proud of yourself!

  28. Hi raChel. ThanK you so much for posting this! I have been looking forward to it ever since you mentioned you would start to compile the Post. You are such an inspiration and you not only look amazing, but so strong in so many ways. ThanK you again for Taking the tIme to post this!

  29. Rach, I so appreciate this post… i have been waiting for it! I started bbg 3 weeks ago & you have totally re-motivated me. I have 3 kids & it is so hard to make the time for yourself, but your results are incredible! thank you for sharing your photos… so helpful to see real results :)

  30. Okay, thiS is SO motivating! I Have such a similar body Type As yours, abs i felt like i was looking in a mirror when i scrolled ThrouGh youe “before” shots. I have two babies, a daughter and a Son, and has them 15 months apart (similar to you im assumIng.) but my son tuRns 2 next month and it hit me the other day that i STILL havent started working out yet. So motivated to get going, though

  31. This is so motivaing! Thanks for sharing! You say you are doing a Second round of the program – does that mean you start at Week 1 day 1 again? Isn’t that goiNg from 100 to 0? Lol Week 1 Is so much easier than week 12!

  32. I have the diastasis recti too After 2 kids and its so frustrating! Did you do anything else (waist trainer/ special exercises) or were your bbG workouts/ running enough to help your stomach go down ? How Exactly did you modify the ab exercises ??

  33. I LOVE how open and honest you are HERE. This post is helpful and also inspiring. I am having a hard time doing bbg and I usually love working out, so this helps motivate me to keep going. (And maybe even take those photos I’M avoiding) thanks for sharing!

  34. Let me start by saying you look fantastic!! What an inspiring transformation! I appreciate the detail you put into this post and came up with one question after reading your experience. Uou mentioned that you preferred doing the 14 minute circuits instead of 7. I Gave bbg a go but wasnt a fan of the way the circuits were stRuctured. Id like to try it your way and Do 14 minutecircuits but wanted to clarify what you did. Do you just do the fIrst circuit of exercises for 14 minutes and then switch to the second for 14 minutes. Rather than going baCk and forth?

  35. Youve Truly inspired me, ive NeVer felt comfortable with my body and this has motivated me to try BBG! Ive been waiting for this post for so long!! But i do have one question, how to You get the energy? I haTe working out Because i never have the energy

  36. I also love bbg! i used it to get in shape after baby #1 and it really changed my whole life and outlook on health and fitness.i saw awesome results and then began to plateau and got slightly bored (i worked out solo). I ultimately decided to join a boot camp (burn boot camp!) which is a great community of women and moms, and pregnant women also do the classes with modifications. this in addition to tailoring my nutrition (i was doing mostly paleo) really pusehed me past the plateu, was never boring, and got me to my goal weight. one comment about the number on the scale – you have built muscle and lost inches, so don’t obsess about the pounds! go based on how you feel and how your clothes fit.

i am currently pregnant with #2 and feel guilty and sad that i cannot work out to the intensity i want to, but i know it is only temporary. i am nervous about the post-partum stage again, but i know eventually i will go back to bbg or bootcamp more regularly one my body heals. as you mentioned, easing into it and listening to your body is key!

    thanks so much for sharing!

  37. how many calories do you eat a day. my eating is holding me back from seeing results, i feel that you have a similar body type to me, so I’d like to trying counting calories as well. thank you!

  38. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING GIRL, YOUR POST HAS INSPIRED ME TO COMMIT TO BBG AFTER A FEW STARTED BUT FAILED ATTEMPTS DUE TO BACK TO BACK PREGNANCIES.

    YOUR COMMITMENT IS INSPIRING!

  39. wow, you provided so much great information, that was really nice of you to answer all of those questions. My one follow-up question after reading is about your knee problems. I actually downloaded the BBG APp a year or so ago, but because I have Knee challenges, I wasn’t able to do a lot of the single leg lunges and such that they do, and they said just modifying, but when I modify I wasn’t feeling any burn other places. Did you experience that?

  40. Did bbg fix your diastasis recti? How did you know what workouts To use to moDify abs? Did fitness help you mentally to Have more energY?

  41. It’s unreal how gorgeous you look (even more).
I follow you for years and you’ve always inspire me, not only in a fashion way, but also you inspire me to be a better person. We live in completly diferent realities. i’m not a mormon, actually i only knew your religion when i had start to follow you, but, i think you are or try to be the best person you can be, doing the best you can do for yours and your comunity, and where i live we are so closed, we always look sad, full of stress and responsabilities… in this way you inspire me to ENJOY ALL THE LITTLE MOMENTS, think more positively, be more happy with what i have… oh well… this all just to say that now you even make me feel wanna do exercise too, go out and run, be more active, even though i work 8 hours per day, plus almost 2 hours in ride LOL.
congrats for your achievement! (Sorry my poor english ups)

  42. Thanks so much for sharing, you look great! I tend to become overly enthusiastic to begin with and do the 0-100 thing, but then get overwhelmed quickly. I love that you eased into this. Looks like it worked for you! I’m going to be remembering this post in a few months after our baby arrives and I’m feeling like I can get back into a normal fitness routine. I have a feeling I’ll need all the inspiration I can get!

  43. Your transformation has been amazing, but I’m glad that you continued to post pictures of yourself before you started working out too. I think it really helped a lot of moms know that you don’t have to have the perfect body the second your baby is born, and I think a lot of women appreciate knowing that you had to work hard for the body you have now, and that it didn’t just happen. Congrats to you. You look awesome!

  47. Hi RAchel! I am planning on going on an lds mission and was thinking about purchasing the bbg program before i go to bring with me so i can EXERCISE. is there any way to use bbg without using an app or being on the internet or would it just not work to bring it on a mission? thanks!

  48. Thank you so much for sharing! You’re an inspiration to be as a new mom who wants to lose the rest of my baby weight and get back to running half marathons! i also have an abdominal split. Did bbg help you close your gap? I have been attempting to do the post pregnancy program but am hoping i can switch to the regular program soon. thank you so much for any advice you can give!

  49. Thanks for sharing your Way back to fitness journey! I think It was very nice of You to take the time to answer all of those questions. It Is also motivating and inspiring tO hear what it takes for a mama to somehow make it happen; getting up early and eating better! This mama of 3 needed to hear some Real answers! Great post. Thanks again for sharing. And congrats on your results!

  50. Thanks for this post! You mentioned that you had diastsis reCti and had to modify the ab workouts. How did you modify them? Did someone tell you what to do instead?

  51. I am so insPired by your fitness journey. What brand of protein powder do you prefer and at what point of your day do you take it? Thanks

  52. Thank you so much for sharing this! I can’t wait to look into the BBg program. I have run long distances myself but get burned out after running long races and want some resistance training to go along with it. You’re so inspiring and so real with is very refreshing to see in someone who is so busy. That is fantastic that you are finding time for yourself but also finding a balance with family and work. Keep up the good work girl!

  54. You look amazing! I feel like ever since you started you have just radiated confidence in all your pictures and IT’S really inspiring!

  55. Did you do the reSistance training and the liss workouts wHen you first started bbg? Or did you only do the 3 resistance workouts each week?

  56. I also have diastasis recti aNd (like others) am wondering how you modified the ab workouts? Its the only thing holding me bacK from trying bbg

  57. How many calories did you eat when you weRe trying to lose and how many dO you eat now?
AlSo can yOu ask your mOm where she got her rug in The living room? The room with the 2 leather couches. Thanks in advance!!!

  58. Appreciate all that you shared! Like others, curious why you waited until you were DONe nursing. and it could be a seperate post but about your experience with PPD and its relationship to your NURSING. AND as others have asked, would love to know more about the modifications for your diastasis recti! THANk you!!

  59. Thank you for sharing!!!! This is so helpful and so motivating? Was your son sleeping through the night when you started? I have a ten month old and cannot lose these last fifteen pounds! I so want to but keep telling myself ill Have more energy when she is older or when she isnt still waking up once a night to have a bottle…😭😭😭 She is my second baby and i just want my tummy flat again!

  60. THANK YOU FOR WRITING THIS!!! ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO AFTER SEEING ALL YOUR POSTS I STARTED DOING BGG AND I DID IT FOR ABOUT A MONTH AND AFTER READING YOUR ADVICE ABOUT TAKING IT SLOW I TRIED DOING TOO MUCH AT ONCE. THIS HAS INSPIRED ME TO START SLOW AND JUST DO THE 3 DAYS A WEEK. I also think your comment about being “soft and skiNny” versus “toned and skinny” was so spot on!

ARE YOU NOT USING THE WM NUTRITION PRE WORKOUT AS MUCH ANYMORE? FOR AWHILE I NOTICED YOU POSTING A LOT ABOUT IT. DOES IT GIVE YOU ANY SORT OF JITTERS AND DO YOU FEEL IT ALL DAY LONG?/ DOES IT MAKE YOU STAY UP AT NIGHT? I GET TO WORK EARLY AT ABOUT 6:30 AM SOME DAYS AND DONT GET OFF WORK UNTIL 5:30 PM AND I AM NERVOUS ABOUT TAKING IT AND BEING UP ALL NIGHT.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR POST AGAIN, RACHEL! YOU ARE SERIOUSLY SO INSIRING AND SOMEONE I LOOK UP TO IN MANY WAYS!

  61. Congrats on your transformation! it’s inspiring :) i was wondering why you chose applesauce as a preworkout snack. Does it give you more energy? thanks!

  62. Thank you so much for shAring! I have been lookiNg forward to this post from you! I also completed BBg to lose the weight after baby #3! Now i need ti get my nutrition in orDer and a going to try carlis meal Plan! Thank you so much fir sharing!

  63. Thanks so much for your post – you look so healthy and happy!!! your dedication is so inspiring!! I ended up with dIastIsis recti after my last babe too and its been Really difficult! i used to Do fairly intensive ballet training but Now i’m so worried about wHat exercises i can do without making the DR worse. I’m so excited to hear your EXPERIENCE!! Could you share more about how you modified the abs to make it dr-safe? Thanks so much!!! 😘

  64. I love that you posted this! Ive had a long year of Slimming down and workouts have Gotten easier…buT still building musclE. Thanks for showing your before pictures too! Its awesome what hard work and eating healthy can do!!

  65. Thank you so much for being so vulnerable and honest! you look amazing and should be so proud of yourself. i’m a wellness blogger and I feel that self care is so important. great job love!

  66. Rach! Thanks for this! I needed to hear all of this to get my butt back in shape. I had my first baby in april, and i have been struggling to get the motivation. I do a little here and there, but i know i need to gain my muscle back. it seems like after having jack, a fire lit in me and i feel the desire to accomplish so many things, just to show him anything is possible. Or to show anyone it is possible; to have baby and still be BA! :)

  67. I am officially motivated! You look amazing! I just went to download the app from the app store and there were lots of “bbg” apps to choose from. Can you share what its called so i choose the right one? Thank you!! Sarah

  68. Hey Rachel,
You said you had to modify the ab workouts to be a low-intensity because of Diastasis Recti, can you give us more info on that? What ab workouts did you do instead? how many times? do the abs go back to normal after?

  69. RACHEL, did you have polished marble countertop in you master bath or honed marble? And would you choose polished marble again for your kitchen? Thank you!

  70. Hi!! I just want to say i love you blog and your Post about bbg
Can you tell me what protein do you take Every morning? I have been looking foR a new one
    Thank you so much

  71. Thank you so much for sharing your journey! i started bbg back in july and was loving my workouts while i wasn’t working. since i have gone back to work i have been struggling with waking up at 5:30 am to get them done and actually had 2 injuries that have derailed my progress. your post has inspired me to get back into the groove!

  72. congrats rachel, you look great and your hard work has paid off! as a dietitian, i often see people who are only willing to commit to exercise while ignoring their bad eating habits. thank you for highlighting how important nutrition is in the scope of health and weight loss!

  73. what time do you go to sleep to wake up so early? what I find challenging in waking up at 6am or earlier to work out is having to go to sleep so early and losing quality time with my husband or social events. how do you balance your social life, if you don’t have a workout buddy?

  74. Awesome post. I started bbg around the same time you did also I’m on week 16 now! I felt like I had to give up running races and follow her program to a t but I see I don’t. How do you balance leg day bbg with running? Same day? Wait a day? And do you do runs for all your cardo (no liss?) And then one fitness class (high fitness) for your hiit? Or do you try to do runs on top of hiit and lis (like walking or speed runs on treadmill as BBG prescribes)? Also, what a modifications do you do for diastasis recti? I have it too and I’m probably making it worse doing BBG abs as it prescribes… so many questions but I’m certainly inspired. So glad you did this post even though it was scary for you…thanks a mil!

  75. You are such an inspiration to me Ms. Parcell! You are definitely one of the sweetest role models that speak into my life <3 I just had a question…what exactly does your workout routine look like from day to day in any given week? Like on your Mondays and Wednesdays, for example, do you go for a light run right after you do BBG or later in the evening? And what ideas do you have for someone like me who kind of has to do it solo?
thank you so so much! I hope you have a day as beautiful as you are!

    xo,
    Raquel

  76. You look amazing! what specific ab exercises did you use to SUPPLEMENT the BBG ab exercises? my Diasti recti went DIAGNOSED after my second until i started exercising (bbg and trx) and noticed that my stomach was getting larger and in turn made it significantly worse. due to that i’ve been holding off getting back into a solid workout routine in fear of making it worse. any help would be appreciated!

  77. Hi, I have bought bbg app also and ended up having diastasis recti after my two pregnancies. I haven’t been able to start it because i have no clue what to avoid and do instead. Please if you can help with that information! I want to start this too and get my body back! you look amazing!

  78. I have been watching for this post and so thrilled for you to receive such wonderful results! This post and following Carli has inspired my sister and I to begin this type of program (diet and exercise) when she returns home from school in the new year!

Quick question: What kind of protein powder and Protein bars do you like the best?

    Thank you! -Mel

  79. Loved your post! I started BBG a few months ago but Stopped becasue i have Diastasis Recti and didnt want to make it worse! What did you do tO modify it or did you just stick to the BBG program and it went away?!

  80. Hi Rachel. ..I’ve been following you for about 5 years now so I’m a Hugh fan. I wanted to thank you for doing this post, it’s really inspiring and I’m going to order the eating plan you used. I remember some of your meals on your insta stories and they looked really nutritious and not complicated at all…but just curious about one thing your sister in-law is a fitness trainer (and she looks amazing) why didn’t you have her create a fitness and eating program for you?

Thank you so much again for this post, Camille Fitzpatrick, Toronto, Canada👏👍💛

  81. Does the BBG workout offer VEGETARIAN meal plan? I am currently pregnant, and it took a long time after my last pregnancy to lose the weight so I am leaning towards doing BBG this time after the pregnancy. Also, can you link the shoes you had on your instastories for running? thanks! p.s. you look amazing! #seriousgoals

  82. What modifications did you do for Your diastisis recti? Are you stilll modifying or has it corrected iTself since doing BBG? i have ab separation too after baby #2!

  83. THANK YOU for sharing your experience! I don’t see any signs of diastisis recti! I got it after my second pregnancy and I haaaate it. Did you find any exercises to help you close the gap? You look amazing!

  84. getting into running – your tips are so helpful!! I just ordered some new running shoes (my nikes weres killing my knees) and i’m interested in the pre-workout powders you mentioned- for the c4/preworkout what are your flavor RECOMMENDATION?

  85. Hi! This is so inspiring thank you for sharing! Could you so a post on running? Clothes and shoes to avoid blisters and irritation? Nutrition before and during runs, I.E. GU. Mental hurdles associated with running? I would love to see how you tackle everything, not to mention while still looking great! 😊

  86. congrats rach! Can you do a post on how you started running and progressed to half marathons? i want to start but an unsure how to go about it. thanks!

  87. Rachel: Thank you so much for posting this! Im sure it was nerve wracking but you have so much to be proud of! I have been waiting for thiS post and it has given me the additional motIvation to try bbg again! My son is about jackson’s Age, but like you, Even though i am skinny, i havent felt great about myself PHYSICALLY. i am on week 2 of BBG and knowing that there are other moms that can push through and take away time from their bAbies is really helpful. Thank you ao much for posting this and keep kicking butt!
    -hannah

  88. Rachel, I know you are so busy. Just a quick question about BBG. I just downloaded the app to my phone, and it looks great.
I do cardio already 4 times a week, so I think I will just incorporate the 3 resistance trainings she has on there.
Is that what you are doing – just her BBG program? You began with the 3 resistance trainings, and then added in cardio?
And it just continues to change each week for the workouts?
Do you ever use the other programs with it- BBG Stronger / Body & Mind – or just the BBG?

    Thanks!
    Ashley Richards
