Beauty Secrets Passed Down…

With Mother’s Day coming up this weekend I’ve been reflecting a lot on the influence my sweet mom has been on me and how she has been one of my biggest inspirations in life. This Mother’s Day feels extra special and has really made me so much more appreciative of my own mom because just a few days ago I became a mother myself. I’m amazed at the love I have for my new little girl and I can’t believe I never understood just how deep a mother’s love for her child runs until now. It’s truly an indescribable love that is so overwhelming in the best way!

I’m so grateful for that love my mom always showed to me growing up. Beauty habits and advice and often passed down from mother to daughter and I remember at a young age my mom taught my sisters and I to embrace who we are and to follow our dreams with confidence – no matter how big or crazy they were!

Ever since I was a little girl both my mom and grandma taught me (and my sisters) the importance of a daily beauty/hygiene routine. My grandma Mary has the most beautiful skin (still!) and she’s 79 years old! I hope my skin looks half as good as hers when I’m that age. I can still remember playing with my sisters in her beauty drawer as little girls and both my mom and grandma would always stress the importance of washing our faces both day and night, and of refraining from touching our face. It seemed silly at the time, but growing up I never touched my face because I wanted pretty skin just like my mom and grandma. Now when anyone asks if I have any skincare secrets I always tell them to wash your face twice a day and NEVER touch your hands to your face!

Now that I’m a mother I look forward to teaching my daughter these same beauty secrets that have been passed down to me along with the importance of feeling beautiful inside and out! I would love to hear any beauty secrets your mother or grandmother passed down to you. Join the conversation by sharing your #BeautyStory to celebrate the real women who inspired it!

You can also watch the new Dove Beauty Stories: Four Generations Film that tells the story of one family’s beauty secrets and traditions they have passed down through the generations.

  1. My Mother always told me not to touch my face too! Some other beauty secrets she shared were to find a good skincare routine and stick to it and the importance of moisturizing your neck. Hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day and congratulations on your beautiful baby girl!

  3. Such beautiful pictures! My boyfriend and his entire family swear by Dove. I personally love using coconut oil as a bath wash, but Dove’s moisture bar is almost as great! Congrats on baby Isla! She’s beautiful!

  4. Rachel – Congratulations on your darling Isla. She’s a doll and makes the cutest “Cherrio O’s” with her little mouth! You’re going to absolutely love having a daughter. My daughter is 9, and we’re both total girly girls… over the years, it has been a blast dressing her up, playing dress up, shopping together, getting our nails done, etc… having a daughter is a precious jewel, and it truly is wonderful!…

About your post, so nostalgic and great compliments to the women you’re close to. You should share a photo of your grandmother, after all the kind words you shared, would love to see her too! Hope you have a Happy 1st Mother’s Day! :o)

  5. Love this .. I have been carrying on the same tradition from my Grandmother and my Mother I only use Sensitive Skin Dove Soap to wash my face and Olay as a moisturizer and Ponds Cold Cream to remove any eye makeup .. I am always getting compliments on my skin from girls younger than me and yes I am almost 49 ..ugh lol .. and I always hold true to what generations before me used .. its simple and it works and my skin looks and feel great ..

  6. Congratulations on your beautiful little girl! Advice and wise words from my mother is something I will always cherish! I hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day with your family!

  8. Awe glad your baby girl finally came! My moms beauty secrets were the same and she looks great as well! Also trying to get as much rest as possible at night!

  9. There are so many things my mother and grandmothers have taught me. Never touching my face was one that I share with you too, it does seem silly but it’s a good tip. My Grandmother always told me to sleep on my back so as to avoid wrinkles :)

Congratulations on your new little bundle. She is so sweet, and beautiful and I can tell she is very loved! From what I can tell, I think she looks like Drew :)

  10. My Mother raised me on dove and I still used it today. Iam 56 yrs old and I raise my daughter on Dove as well. My Mom has pass some 10yrs ago and cleanness she said was next to Godlessness,I’ll I have cancer for a year now and Dove is still on my house..

  11. Loved reading this post! It’s so true- when we become mothers, we can fully appreciate everything our Mom has done for us. I’m just like you, Rach, I never touch my face! It makes all the difference. My Mom taught me a very simple routine to always cleanse and mositurize. I actually got the chance to teach my Mom when I began working in the cosmetic industry at a very young age. I always admired my Mom’s gorgeous skin. Even after she had cancer, her skin was still so beautiful. I miss her so much but will always treasure her advice and love. Beautiful post, Rach!!!

  12. My mom definitely taught me the importance of taking care of my skin at a young age as well!! So every night I always remove my makeup no matter how tired I am and I definitely think it has made a difference as people always think that I’m younger than I really am!! Preventive care is so important with your skin!! xoxo yael
